Candidate policies are likely to be irrelevant to the election outcome in November. Whether Trump is stronger on foreign policy or Harris excels in social welfare might have been a subject of debate if the stakes weren’t so high.
What we are witnessing in the U.S. elections is high politics overtaking issue-based politics, driven by both sides, which have turned the upcoming elections into an existential battle. Each side believes and propagates to their supporters that if their side doesn’t win, it will be the end of democracy.
The only thing that matters between now and November is which side can generate more energy, enthusiasm, and conviction to vote. The Democrats, under Biden, were struggling with enthusiasm, but that has completely changed since Kamala Harris took over. Trump, on the other hand, has achieved near-divine status and holds a strong conviction within his support base, as symbolized by the iconic ‘power fist’ image, which many see as a true representation of what America stands for: faith, courage, and struggle.
Trump vs. Biden was a sure victory for Trump. Trump vs. Harris gives Democrats a fighting chance.
