It’s almost like a script on repeat, that every few months, a new delegation from a foreign country arrives and signs billions of dollars worth of “MoUs” with Pakistan that the government is able to drum around for a few weeks as its achievement.
The only problem is that these MoU’s never have any outcomes and last only as long as the news cycle.
The fact is MoU’s are really “Memorandums of Uncommitment” that serve no purpose beyond press releases and silly optics that nobody buys anymore.
If anything, an MoU is a sign of clear failure that the investor you are trying to woo is either not interested, or worse takes a pity on you through an MoU.
The good way to predict the outcome of these latest 27 MoU's that Saudi Arab and Pakistan have signed would be to check what happened to those 500 previous MoU's worth $100 billion.
There is no escaping the fact that for as long as Pakistan’s leadership continues its dishonest approach towards every aspect of governance and policy, there can be no good outcome.
