The question isn't whether Pakistan is going to crash; it already has, by every metric. The real question is: what will emerge from this crash? A full military takeover? TLPs? Or true democracy?
Pakistan is in a quantum state where all these outcomes are equally possible. This makes it even more critical to fight for democracy as the only option to suspend all other alternatives.
Much will depend on the people of Pakistan and how they fight, but a lot will also be influenced by how the Trump administration approaches Pakistan in these critical moments, which will shape the country's future. Will Pakistan become another North Korea or Iran, or perhaps something more democratic and integrated into the international community? The decision made here will shape history.
I do hope sense prevails and that the US doesn't repeat the mistakes it made in Iran and other parts of the world, where short-term security interests took precedence over long-term democratic development, ultimately giving rise to authoritarian regimes and dictatorships.
I agree that Pakistan has already crashed. The Pakistani state doesn't meet any of the basic requirements of a normal governance. There is no basic education as a right for children, no clean water, and no justice. The institutions that remain have only one purpose, to serve the elite.
Very true. Pakistan is at the precipice anyway, and any sane effort to correct it pushes it closer to its doom. The only resort is an “eccentric” approach by wise and likeminded communities within the state, keeping in mind the unpleasant consequences. Only those with an insanely hardcore mindset can engender the revolutionary movement and nothing lesser than it.
