Let me take the liberty to be a bit more radical here.
It’s not the government or state that needs to be reengineered. In fact, the very concept of 'government' and 'state' needs to be reengineered. The 16th century notion of a state as an entity with a 'monopoly' on violence, resources and national story needs to be done away with.
To build a governance system that is truly 'of, by and for' the people we need to think:
1. Through a Planetary framework that is beyond geographical and mindless 'national' boundaries.
2. Beyond 'centralised' structures of power that are inherently designed to produce authoritarianism and anti-people outcomes.
The fact that we still need "visas" to travel and work around the world in 2024 should be an embarrassment to human evolution. Also, the fact that we have numerous states around the world waging war against its own citizens to perpetuate its hold on power is even more bizarre.
There is no room for a traditional 'state' or 'government' run by professional bureaucrats, political leaders and military officials in the future. We have to come up with something radically new.
